Next Foot Forward offers lived-experience perspective to help people make sense of life’s harder transitions and what often comes next.
Life rarely changes all at once. During major life transitions, it often shifts through moments that leave people unsure how they got here—or how to move forward.
Next Foot Forward offers perspective on life transitions drawn from lived experience, not theory. It’s built around the moments when people feel stuck, overwhelmed, or uncertain about what comes next.
We write from real experience. Over the years, we’ve navigated marriage and divorce, second relationships, raising kids, building careers, losing jobs, managing money under pressure, facing health challenges, and caring for aging parents. Along the way, we learned that most life transitions aren’t undone by bad decisions—but by missing context, unclear expectations, and systems that don’t explain themselves well.
This site exists to make those realities easier to see.
You won’t find universal answers here. What you will find are reflections on what surprised us, what created friction, what helped, and what we wish we had understood sooner. The goal isn’t to tell you what to do—it’s to help you better understand the terrain that often comes with major life transitions.
In addition to the writing on this site, Next Foot Forward is home to the books we’ve published. Each one grew out of a specific real-world challenge and is designed to reduce confusion and organize information when clarity matters most.
If you’re standing at a crossroads—or simply trying to get your footing—you’re in the right place.
